Even More Possibilities

I was going to wait before I broke the news to everyone, but because I have a little time to blog about my life (for once in a LONG while), I'll post something about what's currently going on.

So, I'm a very systematic thinker, while at the same time I have a creative mind. I'm blessed in this way. However, I've learned that although I may enjoy creating, and visual problem solving, I'm better at systematic problem solving and enjoy it a little more.

Although I don't prefer visual problem solving, I think I could be great at it. One huge road block stops me from being competitive at it, I simply don't enjoy some of the more important aspects to visual problem solving.

So far I have found that I love a few things: video editing, 3D modeling/animation, and manipulating a story. But these are not in high job demand. What is in high demand is print and web - neither of which I could see myself doing long term. I suppose the trend is that I like motion, and capturing the captivating. Don't mistake what I'm saying as if I don't enjoy something, I just mean that it's not what I prefer to do most of the time.

These factors influenced my search for a degree that would suit my tastes a little more while at the same time not pushing my graduation date back any. I sat down with my wife and Father to discuss what I was struggling with. We reasoned it out and saw how it would benefit me to at least look. So I went to my advisor and told her what was on my mind. She knew ahead of time that this was a good idea for me, so she found a degree plan that would not delay my graduation while suiting my tastes and talents.

I am now getting a computer studies degree with a computer graphics design minor. Despite what people generally think about what a degree gets you after you graduate, most computer degrees get you a certificate that tells your future employer you are trainable. What I love most is that this degree broadens my scope that much more. Another benefit is the job market related to a computer studies degree is better in comparison to the current CGD job market. CGD is a competitive job field especially with the economy where it is.
